Just thought I’d give a little update on what I’ve been up to (besides my crusade against disinformation on Threads). I am so, so behind on sharing!
FEATURING
I was recently interviewed for a podcast, the Real Deal Divas. I’ve got to get my interview skills down. I’m so excited that I sometimes talk over people, or don’t pause to allow for a new question. In an hour-long podcast, you should break it up more than I allowed for! I’ll get there as I do more of them…self-awareness is the first step.
I was also recently featured in a brief interview for Yellow Arrow Publishing, for their .Writers.On.Writing. series. https://www.yellowarrowpublishing.com/writersonwriting
LITERARY COMMUNITY
I’m currently teaching a 4-week writing class for Wounded Warrior women veterans with TBI and other women veterans, through ASAP.
I was selected to serve as one of the judges for a League of Utah Writers annual writing contest, so I’m busy scoring entries and providing feedback.
I’m busy helping to select workshops for the annual MWA Conference, Brain to Bookshelf, as I’m still serving on the Conference Committee. The only problem is, instead of getting a preview of the great conference I’m attending like in the past, I’m getting a preview of the great conference I’ll be missing from here in Alaska! But I’m hoping to start attending Alaska conferences.
I’m one of the editors for this issue of Maryland Writers’ Association’s annual teen anthology, Emerging Voices, so I have been reviewing the teen submissions.
POETRY READINGS
I’ve been reading non-competitively in a monthly slam competition at Writer’s Block in Anchorage, and I feel like I’m slowly integrating into the poetry community here. Here’s a recent reading:
I also recently read during an open mic at a Pride community festival, but it was raining and chilly, so my husband wasn’t able to get a video.
JOURNALISM
Still writing for Frederick News Post. I even wrote my first Alaska article, about the tradition of Fur Rondy! https://www.fredericknewspost.com/news/arts_and_entertainment/fur-rondy-is-an-annual-community-tradition-in-anchorage/article_b9cab2e0-4065-57f1-bc9d-70cbe8b8998b.html
And I did my favorite interview, with Celeste Ng. https://www.fredericknewspost.com/news/arts_and_entertainment/little-fires-everywhere-author-celeste-ng-will-give-a-talk-in-frederick/article_1040ce69-c9d9-57ab-ac3e-7076e3f59fac.html
So…even after moving, I’m keeping busy with and for the Arts community–in Alaska, Maryland, Utah, and beyond! Every single day, we’re happy we moved here.
