On Wednesday night, I read two of my poems at the Frederick Arts Center. Our chapter of Maryland Writers’ Association typically hosts an annual poetry reading and open mic at Sky Stage, an outdoor venue, but we were rained out this year–twice! But the Arts Council was great–they found us space at the Arts Center, and it was perfect. We had 29 folks show up, despite the rain. Ten of us read before opening it up to open mic.
I read the two poems that I’d practiced in August at an open mic at the Baltimore County Arts Guild Clubhouse in August: Capitol Offense, which is about the Insurrection, and The List, about my experiences interpreting in Iraq. I plan to read them both, along with one or two others, under the poetry tent at the Write Women Book Fest in October.

Before heading out, I did a quick video about why I was wearing what I was wearing. You can watch it here:
Anyway, it was my best reading yet. I was still nervous before, during, and after (and during the typing of this blog), but overall it was a good night 🙂
