DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY–Open mic will take place in the hotel lobby on Saturday night.  I’ll be hosting and reading my own work.  The first annual MWA Conference Open Mic went so well that we can’t wait to do it again! \nSUNDAY–I will also be presenting during the conference on Sunday at 3:45pm\, whipping out my Linguistics training for “What Should You Consider When Creating a Language for Your World?” \nAre you thinking about creating languages for the worlds in your novel? \nWhat will make your community sound mighty? Gentle? Friendly? Adversary? What will sound more foreign’ or more familiar’ to the American English reader? \nIn this workshop\, the presenter will provide linguistic guidance on some of the phonological\, lexical\, and grammatical elements of language that you should consider when creating a believable\, readable language from scratch. \nI continue to serve on the conference committee this year\, involved in bringing in more great workshops and activities.

DESCRIPTION:I’ve been invited to sit on a Black History Month panel with my poem “Suburban Lies” – you know\, the one about all the stuff they conveniently left out of our curriculum? More details in the future.  Description: \n\n\nBLACK HISTORY IS ALL OUR HISTORY\nSATURDAY\, FEBRUARY 25\n5PM \n\n\n\n\nJoin members of the EC Poetry & Prose Collective for a reading\, performance\, and conversation.\nResponding in part to the decision to reject the African American AP course in various states – specifically Florida\, a state rich with Afro/Caribbean history – the poets will share words that connect and shed light on the interlacing of the history of America.

SUMMARY:Art at Night Ekphrastic Event at The Delaplaine (Reader\, Organizer)
DESCRIPTION:I’ll be hosting an ekphrastic event\, partnering the Frederick Chapter of Maryland Writers’ Association with the Delaplaine Arts Center.  It’s exciting!  We will be paired with a juried photography exhibit.  Up to 20 poets (including yours truly!) will be writing ekphrastic poetry inspired by the photographs.  I look forward to this reading!
